National News: A normal evening in Gorakhpur’s busy market turned into horror on Sunday. Around 8 pm, Vishwakarma Chauhan confronted his wife Mamta outside a photo studio. Within minutes, the argument escalated, and bullets were fired, leaving bystanders in shock and fear. Police officials later revealed a disturbing confession. Vishwakarma told interrogators he felt “no regret” after killing Mamta. He accused her of draining money and creating disputes over property and support. His cold words highlighted the growing anger and frustration behind domestic crimes.
The Shahpur police arrested Vishwakarma shortly after the murder. From his possession, they seized an illegal pistol, three live cartridges, and two empty shells. Investigators said the weapon was locally made and is now a key piece of evidence in the case.
CCTV footage captured the final moments. A verbal clash quickly spiraled out of control. In rage, Vishwakarma pulled out his pistol and shot Mamta twice. One bullet hit her chest, another struck her hand. She collapsed instantly, bleeding on the spot.
The couple had been married for 14 years but were going through divorce proceedings. According to police, Mamta demanded farmland transfer and child support before agreeing to separation. Their 13-year-old daughter had been living with Mamta during the tense family dispute.
Passersby rushed Mamta to a nearby hospital after the shooting. Doctors, however, declared her dead on arrival. The news spread quickly in Gorakhpur, sparking anger and fear among residents who demanded stricter action against crimes involving illegal firearms.
Police have charged Vishwakarma with murder and illegal possession of arms. Officials said Mamta, originally from Khajni, worked in a private firm, while Vishwakarma lived separately. Their daughter is now left without a mother and caught in the aftermath of tragedy.
